Please contact Teran Nickles at 864-941-5411 or nicklest@gwd50.org for any questions concerning transfers or for any of the following:
- You currently have a child enrolled in a school and are requesting for their sibling to attend the same school and the requested school/grade is closed.
- You are a current employee of the school you are requesting for your child to attend and the requested grade is closed.
If your student was accepted into ACTS, Medical Magnet, STEMS, GSI or Montessori for 26-27, do not complete a transfer request.
-
If you reside in the Greenwood School District 50 attendance area and wish to request that your child attend a school in District 50 other than the one to which he/she is zoned to attend, you must complete an in-district transfer request.
-
If you do not reside in the Greenwood School District 50 attendance area and wish to request permission to enroll your child in Greenwood District 50, you must complete an out-of-district enrollment request each year and request a release from your zoned district each year.
-
If you reside in the Greenwood School District 50 attendance area and wish to request that your child be released to attend school in another school district (for example: Ninety Six, Ware Shoals, etc.), you must complete a release request.
Click here to complete a release request.
Student releases are approved pending acceptance by the school district to which you are requesting to transfer your child. Greenwood School District 50 will not be responsible for transportation or any costs incurred as a result of your child attending school in another district. The release will be in effect as long as the district to which your child is transferring approves his/her admission.

In District Students
- Each year, based on the expected enrollment and capacity of each school, the school district decides which schools and programs will be open to transfers as well as how many students can be approved to attend a school through the transfer window.
- Students who are currently in kindergarten through 11th grade may apply for a transfer. In addition, students who will begin kindergarten in the upcoming year may apply.
- Preschool age students (K4) are not eligible for a transfer through the district transfer process. All pre-K applications and enrollments will go through the Executive Director of Instruction.
- Students receiving special education may apply for a transfer through the district’s transfer process. The decision to grant the request is based on the student’s programming needs and program capacity at the school of choice.
- Parents whose children participate as a transfer student, must have transportation provided, to and from school. The inability of a student to meet the attendance expectations of the school will lead to the transfer approval being revoked. In that case, the student must then return to the zoned school.
- Any student attending a school through a transfer must maintain exemplary punctuality and attendance at school, cooperate with the school in regards to academic and disciplinary expectations, provide transportation to and from school, and submit required annual Proof of Residency as a condition of remaining at the school.
- The rules of the South Carolina High School League determine eligibility for interscholastic athletics and activities for middle and high school students. It is the parents’ and students’ responsibility to be aware of these athletic procedures before applying for a district transfer. Any student who accepts a transfer and participates in an athletic activity during the spring or summer may have their eligibility affected. If you have questions regarding participation in interscholastic athletics, please contact your school’s athletic director prior to applying for a transfer to a school other than your zoned school.
- If approved for a GWD 50 transfer, a student does not need to apply yearly for the same school. Transfer approvals are valid for the duration of a student's stay at the approved school until they change schools or move out of Greenwood District 50 zone.
- Any approved transfer may be revoked if a student is not making adequate academic progress, fails to maintain good conduct and behavior, becomes a disruption to the operation of the school or a detriment to the learning of other students, has excessive tardies and/or absences, or has submitted falsified documents to the district to obtain the transfer.
-
OUT-OF-DISTRICT STUDENTS
- A release from the home district must be requested by the parents of the enrolling student(s) and presented or mailed to the District 50 Administrative Office.
- All district and school policies, rules, and regulations will apply to all out-of-district students immediately upon enrollment in District 50.
- Greenwood School District 50 will determine school assignment and placement within the school for all out-of-district students who are accepted into the district.
- Any out-of-district student who desires to enroll in District 50 must be in good standing with his/her home school and district.
- Enrollment of any out-of-district student must not cause a financial burden for District 50. Any excess cost in educating an out-of-district student must be borne by the parent(s), guardian(s), and/or home district.
- Greenwood School District 50 will not provide transportation for out-of-district students.
- Continued enrollment in District 50 for any out-of-district student is contingent upon cooperation by both student and parents.
- Approval of requests may be revoked at any time for reasons including, but not limited to: (1) violation of school rules, (2) academic performance, (3) an accumulation of excessive absences (tardies or late pick-ups), (4) submitting false information, (5) if at any time this causes class size to become a problem, and (6) if required services are not already available.
- When granting an admission or a request for readmission, the board may consider any factor it deems relevant including, but not limited to, financial consequences, available staff, available facilities, class enrollment, prior disciplinary problems, prior attendance record, and previous effort to make satisfactory academic progress, among others.
- Any student attending a school through a transfer must maintain exemplary punctuality and attendance and cooperate with the school's academic and disciplinary expectations.

- Failure at any time to comply with the above regulations may result in the student’s return to his/her home district.
OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS
- Any out-of-state student who desires to enroll in Greenwood School District 50 must provide the administrative office with proof of legal guardianship if he/she is living with someone other than his/her parents.
- Any out-of-state student who desires to enroll in District 50 must be in good standing with his/her home school and district.
