Doris Watson has been named as the Interim Principal at Pinecrest Elementary School. Watson has worked over 30 years as an director, principal, instructional specialist and teacher in Greenwood School District 50. In 2016, the Adult Education Program received the Going for Gold award for excellence as an educational and workforce organization under Watson’s leadership as director. Along with her experience as an educator in D50, Watson has also served as a mentor to new teachers and administrators in the district.
Watson obtained her Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Elementary Education from Lander University and received her Masters of Arts degrees in Elementary Education and Educational Leadership from Lander University and Furman University.
“I am excited about returning to District 50 as an administrator at Pinecrest,” Watson said. “Pinecrest offers a tremendous educational experience for all students that is engaging and diverse. Principal Jacks and his team have worked hard to create a school climate that is centered on quality teaching and continuous improvement. I look forward to building on their successes as we continue to make a difference in the lives of our students.”
Superintendent Dr. Steve Glenn is excited to have an experienced administrator moving into an interim role in the district.
“Mrs. Watson will do a tremendous job as interim principal at Pinecrest,” Dr. Glenn stated. “She has been effective at building relationships with our children and community throughout her years as an educator in District 50. We look forward to working with her and the Pinecrest family to continue the school’s growth in academics and achievement.”
Watson replaces current Pinecrest principal Barry Jacks who announced his retirement from the district at the end of November.
This position is labeled with an interim status which means that the position will be posted at the end of the school year for qualified candidates to apply.
