State Education Agencies Celebrate Academic Achievement of Schools at Pinecrest Elementary School

On Tuesday, October 15, the South Carolina Department of Education and Education Oversight Committee released the 2024 State School Report Cards. Greenwood School District 50 had 6 schools rated as Excellent and 2 schools rated as Good on the State Report Cards. State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver along with other State Education Agencies  visited Pinecrest Elementary on October 15th to recognize the school’s students, teachers, and staff for their tremendous improvement on the report card.

“We are excited by the recent ratings that our schools received on the State Report Cards,” Superintendent Dr. Steve Glenn stated. “Our district continues to show improvement in several of the key performance indicators on the report card. As always, these ratings can be attributed to the hard work of our students, teachers and staff. We will continue to explore ways to improve all of our schools as we continue to make a difference in the lives of our children every day.”

In a State Department of Education press release, Weaver highlighted the performance of Pinecrest Elementary. Pinecrest earned an Excellent overall rating on the 2024 School Report Cards and also received the highest rating in both Academic Achievement and Student Progress.

“The performance of schools like Pinecrest Elementary reminds us that though poverty is a challenge, it does not have to be destiny,” stated Weaver. “The faculty, staff, and students at these schools are living proof of the progress that is possible with a clear vision, focused leadership and high expectations for every student.”

South Carolina School Report Cards provide information about each school and district in relation to their academic achievement, teacher qualifications, student safety, awards, parent involvement, graduation rate, college and career readiness, etc.

Schools are rated based on several performance indicators that are required by federal and state law and approved by the State Superintendent of Education and SC Education Oversight Committee. Indicators include:

  • Academic Achievement
  • Student Progress
  • Preparing for Success
  • College and Career Ready
  • English Language Learners’ Progress
  • Graduation Rate
  • School Climate
  • Classroom Environment
  • Student Safety
