Greenwood School District 50 Updates COVID-19 Guidelines for Isolations and Quarantines

SCDHEC recently released new requirements on Jan. 4, 2022, that reduce the length of time for COVID-19 isolations and quarantines. Greenwood School District 50 will continue to follow DHEC’s recommendations, with updated guidelines effective immediately.

For students and staff who test positive for COVID-19:

  • Isolation period is 5 days, if there are no symptoms or symptoms have improved.
  • Must be without fever (temperature below 100) for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication prior to returning to school.
  • Must check in with the School Nurse upon return to school and provide the signed Return To School Form.
  • As required by DHEC, students and staff who choose to return after day 5 must wear a mask for days 6-10.

For students and staff who are exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and are not vaccinated:

  • Quarantine for a minimum of 5 days.
  • Quarantine can end at the completion of day 5 if a viral test (not a home test) is negative AND if no symptoms were present during the quarantine period.
  • A PCR or antigen test must be collected no sooner than day 4.
  • As required by DHEC, students and staff who choose to return after day 5 must wear a mask for days 6-10.

For students and staff members who are fully vaccinated or have been infected with COVID-19 in the previous 90 days:

  • No quarantine is required unless symptoms are present.
  • DHEC recommends getting tested on day 5 even if no symptoms are present and wearing a mask for days 1-10.

Per DHEC/CDC, fully vaccinated individuals are those who have completed an initial vaccination series and a booster for those eligible by age and time. Boosters are recommended 6 months after the completion of your initial series. Individuals are fully vaccinated two weeks after the completion of their initial series or booster shot.
